Netflix unveiled the official trailer for Season 2 of its NBA docuseries Starting 5 on Wednesday, building excitement across the basketball world. A standout moment shows Los Angeles Clippers star James Harden getting pulled over by a police officer.
Starting 5, which debuted last year, gives fans an inside look at the personal and professional journeys of NBA stars. It documents how each player juggles their personal lives with their pursuit of greatness on the court—and the heartbreak that comes with it.
Season 2 highlights the 2024-25 season and follows Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers), Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics), and then-Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant, alongside Harden.
Harden, the league’s 2018 MVP, was prominently featured in Wednesday’s trailer.
“I know who you are,” the officer says right away, as Harden begins to explain himself.
“I’m late to a game. I gotta be there at 8:00,” Harden said before the officer points out the presence of the camera crew.
“Am I on TV right now?” the officer asks.
“Netflix. You’re gonna be on TV,” Harden confirms.
While Harden may not have the most dramatic storyline in Season 2, his 16th NBA season was still impressive. He earned his 11th All-Star selection while leading the Clippers to a 50-win season.
The Clippers ultimately were eliminated in a seven-game first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets.
Netflix will release all eight episodes of Starting 5 Season 2 on October 16, just five days before the 2025-26 season’s opening night on October 21.
